Hart receives CIC/UPS Scholarship
Southern Wesleyan University student Justin Hart, a sophomore from Columbia majoring in Elementary Education, has been selected to receive a CIC/UPS Scholarship provided by the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Inc. (SCICU) and its national partner, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, D.C.
Nationally, CIC, through the CIC/UPS Educational Endowment, provided more than $1.6 million in student scholarships to make private colleges and universities more affordable and accessible to underserved students. This year, the SCICU awarded $60,000 in CIC/UPS Scholarships to students at private institutions across South Carolina.
“I am humbled to receive this generous scholarship from CIC/UPS. I am so thankful for the generosity of all donors and their monies. Without their generosity, I would be forced to take out additional loans to come here for school,” Hart said. “I choose SWU because they are not only student focused, but Christ focused. With the help of these scholarships, I will be able to get a degree with a minimal amount of student debt.”
“The UPS Foundation has been a long-time and generous supporter of independent higher education, not only in South Carolina, but nationwide,” said Edward Shannon, executive vice president of SCICU. “We are very appreciative of its support and recognize that the lives of many worthy students have been changed for the better.”
