    Southern Wesleyan University recently named Lisa Lopez as its new associate vice president for curriculum and instruction.

    Lopez brings into her new role significant experience in higher education administration, curriculum development, learning management systems, distance learning, technology implementation and faculty development. Before coming to Southern Wesleyan, she was the academic director for computer applications at Spartanburg Community College. She also has several years of teaching experience in a higher education setting to traditional and non-traditional students. While at Spartanburg Community College, Lopez was nominated by the students and selected by the faculty as the recipient of the Faculty of the Year award.  

    In 2013, Lopez authored the Windows 8 quick start guide for Cengage Learning, which is being sold on college and university campuses across the US. Also, she was profiled in Essence magazine (May 2007) and is a recipient of a volunteer award from Habitat for Humanity.

    Lopez is a military veteran, having served as a captain in the US Army in overseas and stateside locations.  During her time in the Army, Lopez received numerous military awards, and managed military databases.

    Lopez graduated from Leadership Spartanburg and has given numerous technology presentations at statewide, regional and national conferences, including a presentation for one of Microsoft’s vice-presidents. She also served as a technology consultant for numerous colleges and universities across the USA. Lopez is a certified Microsoft Office User, and has a certification in IC3 (Internet and Computing Core Certification).

    Lopez earned her bachelor of science in business administration from South Carolina State University, and her MBA from Webster University. She also earned her graduate certificate in higher education leadership from the University of South Carolina. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in higher education leadership at Clemson University, where she has a 4.0 GPA.

    Lopez will provide leadership in the form of curriculum development and faculty training for Southern Wesleyan’s online degree program and its Adult and Graduate Studies program through the Center for Transformational Learning (CTL). CTL also provides resources for students who are seeking academic assistance, including peer tutors, writing coaches, online tutoring, and supplemental instruction.
