The Benson School of Business at Southern Wesleyan University is launching a new minor that will benefit anyone wishing to enter the financial planning profession or simply wanting to become more proficient in managing their own financial future.

A fully-online financial planning minor will launch in 2019 that will prepare students in a variety of financial planning areas, including insurance, investment income, income tax, retirement and estates.

“Money wisdom is vital to both survive and thrive as adults in our modern society.  It’s really not optional, so learn as much as you can as soon as you can,” said Pete Benson, founder of Beacon Capital Management. “Your present and your future depend on it!”

“SWU’s new Financial Planning minor will equip students in any major with the skills to manage their own finances for life. It will even provide an avenue leading toward becoming a professional financial advisor, if desired,” said Dr. Stephen Preacher, dean of The Benson School of Business at Southern Wesleyan University.

Preacher notes that the minor consists of 21 credit hours and that all courses are delivered online; also there are no business course prerequisites. He stresses that the courses are rigorous. He added that the first course will be offered during the Spring 2019 term and will continue through the summer and each online term thereafter.

For those desiring to become personal financial planners, this minor will also help prepare students to become financial advisors within a variety of financial institutions.

While the minor itself does not bestow the professional Certified Financial Planner® certificate, Southern Wesleyan’s financial planning minor is designed to prepare students for the CFP® Certification Examination in order to become a Certified Financial Planner®.

The financial planning program at Southern Wesleyan University is different from competitive secular programs in that it is established on a foundation of Christian values for wealth management.
