Dr. Royce Caines, dean of Southern Wesleyan University’s School of Business, presents a medallion to Antoine Sullivan as Dr. Christina Accornero, chair of the Division of Religion, looks on. Sullivan is a new student from Simpsonville who plans to major in sport management.

The Passing the Mantle ceremony took place Jan. 9 at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the Southern Wesleyan’s campus in Central. During the ceremony, Rev. Ken Dill recalled his days as a student and shared a testimony of how God answered his prayers beyond his expectations. Dr. Joe Brockinton, vice president for student life, reminded the audience of new and transfer students that they are starting on a new adventure.

Held at the beginning of each semester, Passing the Mantle celebrates an academic and spiritual transition for new students. During the ceremony, parents and members of Southern Wesleyan’s faculty and staff pray with students and present them with a medallion to mark the milestone.
