Pew was selected in a unanimous vote by school board members.

Pew has been a member of Southern Wesleyan’s adjunct faculty since 2003, teaching graduate courses in curriculum, instruction and school leadership.  She also teaches in the master of education program at Anderson University.

“We are very proud of Kelly, of her appointment as superintendent and of her long association with the School of Education,” said Dr. Paul Shotsberger, dean of Southern Wesleyan’s School of Education.  Shotsberger described Pew as “an outstanding adjunct instructor” in both the M.Ed. in Classroom Leadership and the MEd in Administration and Supervision programs.

Shotsberger added, “Can you imagine how inspiring it is for SWU master’s students in education to have their instructor named as superintendent?”

She will succeed Dr. Henry Hunt, who is retiring at the end of June. Pew was named assistant superintendent of instructional services in May 2011 after serving as the district’s assistant superintendent of human resource services for three years. She has served as a principal at Seneca High School, Seneca Middle School and Wren High School’s Freshman Academy. She was also an assistant principal at Wren. Pew also taught at Chapman High School in Inman, as well as McDuffie and T.L. Hanna high schools in Anderson.

Pew earned a bachelor of arts in secondary education from Clemson University. She also earned a master’s degree in administration/supervision from Furman University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and a superintendent’s certification from Clemson.
