Rodriguez spent 12 seasons at Southern Wesleyan as a player and as a coach. He played on the men’s soccer team from 2001-04 and helped the Warriors win the Southern States Athletic Association Championship, NCCAA South Region Championship, and led them to a berth in the NCCAA National Championship game in 2003. He was named to the Georgia Alabama Carolina Conference Second Team in 2001 and 2002. He was also selected to the NAIA All-Region XIII Team and NCCAA All-South Region Team in 2002.

In eight seasons as head coach at SWU, Rodriguez led the program to two national titles, in 2013 and 2015. The Warriors were ranked second in the final NCCAA rankings in 2013, and finished in the top 10 of the rankings each of the last four years.

Rodriguez finished with a 94-57-13 overall record as Southern Wesleyan’s head coach, and earned several coaching accolades during his tenure. He was named the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 2015, and was recognized as the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year and NCCAA/NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 2013. In 2012, he was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year by unanimous vote.

“I am so thankful for Coach Rodriguez’s many years of service here at Southern Wesleyan,” said Warriors Director of Athletics Chris Williams. “He has been successful leading our men’s soccer program both on and off the field. His impact with his players is immeasurable. I am happy for him to receive the opportunity to coach at Clemson. I am also excited to see what God has in store for him in the future.”

Southern Wesleyan has already begun the national search for a new head men’s soccer coach.
