Southern Wesleyan University among Top 25 Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South
Southern Wesleyan University was named among the 25 Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the South.
The ranking came from Christian Universities Online, a leading Christian higher education resource. Awardees are chosen from colleges and universities that are members of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) or are eligible for membership. Data considered include faculty-to-student ratio, percentage of fulltime beginning undergraduates receiving a grant or scholarship aid, selectivity, overall retention rate and overall graduation rate. Each of these categories received equal weight in calculating the final ranking.
“It is very encouraging for SWU to be listed amongst these various rankings,” said David Slabaugh, Southern Wesleyan’s director of admissions. “God continues to bless SWU and the institution continues to make a positive impact on this world for Christ.”
According to Anna Rebekah Orr, editor of the rankings, Christian Universities Online seeks to highlight colleges and universities that represent the best institutions in terms of overall quality, affordability and student satisfaction.
“Choosing a Christian college or university to attend is a serious decision with many individual factors to consider. In compiling this list of the best Christian colleges and universities by region, we hope to offer both parents and students a valuable resource which will help them in determining the best school which will meet their individual needs and goals,” Orr said.
The report highlights a relatively low student to faculty ratio in Southern Wesleyan’s traditional degree programs, plus a wide variety of student-led clubs and organizations that help students to “become involved and connected with fellow students outside the classroom.” It also highlights the university’s 73 percent retention rate. The report also highlights how 99 percent of fulltime beginning undergraduates in the traditional program receive some type of financial aid in the form of grants or scholarships.
Christian Universities Online also listed Southern Wesleyan as the 14th most affordable Christian college in the nation. Southern Wesleyan is also listed as one of the 25 Most Beautiful Colleges and Universities in the South for its Central campus, surrounded by large wooded areas and residential areas, tree-filled campus and the architectural style of its buildings.
