SWU Alumna Named Top Law Enforcement Rookie

Central, SC — Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) Officer Natalie Thompson, a 2023 graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, was named Rookie of the Year by the South Carolina Office of Highway Safety and Justice Program. The award was presented to her at the annual Highway Safety Law Enforcement Awards Ceremony on April 2, 2025, where she received the Rookie of the Year Award and the DUI Hero Pin.
“Office Natalie Thompson should be commended for her outstanding achievements at the Clemson University Police Department,” said Mr. James McDonald, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science. “As the top law enforcement rookie in South Carolina, her unwavering dedication to community and roadway safety clearly reflects a true passion for service. We’re proud to see alumni using their God-given talents by working in various professions to make a difference in people’s lives. Congratulations, Officer Thompson, for a job well done!”
Officer Natalie Thompson joined CUPD in 2024 and began her work in DUI enforcement, which totaled 21 impaired driving arrests. She works to educate the public on impaired driving and alcohol enforcement initiatives for Clemson University and the City of Clemson.
