SWU Announces Chartering of Premier National Honor Society

Central, SC — Southern Wesleyan University announced the official chartering of a new chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), the premier national honor society dedicated to recognizing excellence in the field of education. KDP was established on March 8, 1911, at the University of Illinois, and it was the first discipline specific honor society. SWU’s KDP chapter, established on March 21, 2025, is led by Dr. Mona Thornton, Professor of Education and Chapter Advisor, and Dr. Janice Young, Associate Professor of Education and Chapter Co-Advisor.
“We’re proud to establish Kappa Delta Pi to showcase SWU’s commitment to academic excellence and professional development in the field of education,” said Dr. Mona Thornton. “Our inaugural inductees are dedicated to superior academic performance and vocational training to make a difference in the field of education after graduation. The ten inductees are distinguished students with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and have demonstrated scholarly achievement in the classroom. Congratulations to Russell Chappell, Janey Dixon, Mallorie Doty, Donette Harding, Kayce Harris, Carolin Justus, Barrett Rampey, Kristin Smith, Titus Thompson, and Emilee Westmoreland.”
