Southern Wesleyan University’s Greenville education center presented $1,125 to Jesse S. Bobo Elementary School in Spartanburg to purchase books for their reading program. SWU Greenville Regional Director Terry Blackwell made the donation Dec. 19 to Jesse S. Bobo Principal Thomas Webster. The program, aimed at fourth- and fifth-graders, consists of a reading tournament that generates excitement about reading while helping students improve reading comprehension.

“We bought a set of books last year, not knowing how we would buy a set this year,” Webster said. “It was a great blessing for Terry to call me about the donation,” said Webster, adding that the donation will enable the school to continue the program for grades 4 and 5 in January. Jesse S. Bobo Elementary is located in Spartanburg School District 6.
