The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), Tennis Division, presented its Distinguished Outdoor Tennis Facility Award to the Rev. LeRoy Cox Tennis Complex at Southern Wesleyan University, in recognition of excellence in design and construction.

Completed in 2016, the tennis complex has six USTA-designed lighted tennis courts, ample spectator seating and an electronic scoreboard. The complex, which serves as the home venue for the university’s men’s and women’s tennis teams as well as for camps and various competitions, was built by Baseline Sports Construction.

Southern Wesleyan University President Dr. Todd Voss is proud of the complex, located near the entrance to the Central campus.

"This beautiful complex was actually originally designed by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in an effort to enhance interest in the sport in our region. They provided the schematic design and consulting support at no cost to SWU. With the courts so visible and accessible, I am certain SWU has exceeded the USTA's expectations of use,” Voss said.

Southern Wesleyan’s Director of Athletics, Chris Williams, remarked, “The Cox Tennis Complex is a premier NCAA DII facility. The Warrior Tennis Programs are so pleased to train and compete within one of the premier venues in small college athletics.”

Southern Wesleyan’s Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach Nathan Thompson said, “I have been to a lot of tennis facilities, and I think SWU’s is one of the most beautiful collegiate tennis complexes in the nation.”

Southern Wesleyan University Athletics has had a men’s and women’s tennis program since 2012. The team competes in NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
