The Southern Wesleyan University board of trustees voted unanimously to add four new intercollegiate sports teams in men’s and women’s track and field and men’s and women’s tennis.

The teams will begin competition in 2013-2014. “I am excited that the Board has approved the addition of these four sports,” said SWU director of athletics Chris Williams. “The addition of track and tennis will only add to momentum here at SWU.” A national search for the head coaching positions of the track and field teams and the tennis teams will begin immediately. This move will also increase interest at the University to make application with the NCAA on February 1, 2013. The track and field teams will also help bolster the successful women and men’s cross country programs at SWU.
