New Student Orientation Schedule - Parents

Thursday, August 13

3:00PM - 8:00PM Welcome to SWU!
By Appt. Only: Cleared Students Move In Residence Halls
You will receive an orientation ticket prior to arriving on campus to let you know whether you are “cleared” or “not-cleared” to move in to the residence halls. Cleared students will show your orientation ticket upon arrival and will be guided to move into your residence hall and meet other new students and families. You will receive your room keys at this time as well.

Friday, August 14

8:00AM - 12:00PM Welcome to SWU!
By Appt. Only: Cleared Students Move In - Residence Halls
You will receive an orientation ticket prior to arriving on campus to let you know whether you are “cleared” or “not-cleared” to move in to the residence halls. Cleared students will show your orientation ticket upon arrival and will be guided to move into your residence hall and meet other new students and families. You will receive your final ID card and room keys.

Not Cleared Student Registration - Founders Hall
You will show your orientation ticket up on arrival and be guided to finish your registration process: meet with financial aid and student account representatives to discuss scholarships, loans, and payment plan options; complete final registration items; receive your final student ID card.

9:00AM - 11:00AM Registration Meeting - Founders Hall/1906 Room
For students who have not registered. You will work with faculty advisors to register for classes or adjust your class schedule.

10:00AM - 12:00PM Welcome to SWU! - Dining Commons
Commuter Check In
You will arrive to finalize the registration process or show your cleared ticket to be directed to lunch.

12:00PM - 1:00PM Vendor Fair International Hallway
Local business will be set up to give you more information about services offered close to SWU.

12:00PM - 2:00PM Lunch - Dining Commons
Lunch is included for students with ID card and is $7.00 for guests or family members. Tables will be set up by majors.

2:00PM - 2:45PM Welcome Session - Newton-Hobson Auditorium
Leaders and students will help you learn what it means to be a part of the community life and culture of SWU. Have fun as your New Student Orientation (NSO) leaders guide you through orientation day!

2:45PM - 3:00PM Refreshment Break - Newton Hobson Lobby 

3:00PM - 3:30PM Parent Session 1 - Newton-Hobson Auditorium
Hear from campus leaders about the key issues and questions most parents have and have the opportunity for Q&A.

3:30PM - 4:00PM Parent Session 2 - Newton-Hobson Auditorium
Hear from Student Life leaders about the transition to college, what to expect from your student, the emotional transition, and how to engage with your student and university leaders.

4:15PM - 5:00PM Student Athletes & Parents Meeting - Newton Hobson Auditorium
Learn about communication protocol and team community expectations.

5:00PM - 6:50PM Dinner - Dining Commons
Parents and students meet back up to go to dinner between 5:00-6:50. Dinner is  included for students with ID cards and is $8.25 for guests or family members.

7:00PM - 8:15PM Passing the Mantle Ceremony - Newton Hobson Auditorium
A special SWU tradition for families and new students that will focus on the transition into a new educational and spiritual journey as an independent young adult. Your new SWU community will be there to welcome you and pray for you.                        

8:30PM - 10:00PM SWU Trivia - Newton-Hobson Auditorium
This event will help you connect with some of the SWU administration and also give you the opportunity to connect with other parents.  We will share some laughs together along with some trivia about our SWU community for a chance to win some fun prizes. Also, we will send you away from the evening with a special gift from Dr. Voss, University President.
