The online Master of Science in Management and Leadership (MSML) degree program is designed for current and aspiring leaders in a variety of organizations. This program focuses on key areas of management integrated with the best leadership practices. Unlike a traditional MBA that often includes a broad knowledge from a variety of business disciplines, the MS in Management and Leadership at SWU covers the necessary subjects for you to lead teams and organizations effectively and build alliances from a Christ-centered perspective that is characteristic of all the programs offered by SWU. Lessons and concepts from the classroom can be immediately applied in workplaces and organizations.

As a student in the Master's in Management and Leadership program, you will gain skills in strategic planning, organizational development, information management and effective decision-making. You will participate in management exercises and learn to apply theory to practice in a way that addresses real-world business problems. You will discover a clear perception of management ethics based on Christian principles and the ability to use collaborative techniques in project development and completion. The program focuses on Christian servant leadership principles, the management of tangible and intangible resources within various organizational cultures and how to effectively achieve organizational goals and objectives.

All MSML students must choose a concentration area. The Master's in Management and Leadership program at SWU is designed to include a concentration, so it does not lengthen the program. Concentration area courses are taught at the beginning of the program and are offered each academic term as long as sufficient demand exists.

Students in the MSML Healthcare program need to be currently working within a healthcare setting, healthcare related organization, or have prior healthcare experience.

Admission Requirements for Master of Science in Management and Leadership

  • Submission of a completed application
  • $25 application fee
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience in a healthcare setting of at least one year (healthcare administration concentration student only)
  • GPA of 2.7 or better on all undergraduate coursework or on the final 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
  • If GPA is less than 2.7 but better than 2.5, students may be granted conditional admission if approved by the Admission Committee
  • If GPA is less than 2.5 and upon approval of the Admission Committee, students may take the GMAT and present a score of 450 or greater for consideration. Admission to the program is not guaranteed by taking the GMAT.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language, applicant must submit an official TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper test), 213 (computer test) or equivalent evidence of proficiency in English.
