Understand, love, and help others with a psychology degree

You love people. You love understanding what makes them "tick" - their personalities, their mindset and lifestyle. And you want to help apply that knowledge to make the world a better place. If you've ever thought that you want to "help people," this might be the major for you. A psychology degree uniquely prepares you for a wide array of careers encompassing everything from research to counseling. At SWU, that preparation comes with a holistic approach to the human mind, body, and soul.

What Do Students Enrolled In The Psychology Program Do?

As a psychology major, you will take 100% online courses specifically designed to familiarize you with the key theories and principles in psychology. This process begins as early as your first semester as you take General Psychology for Majors, a course in which you get “hands-on” experience. You will continue honing these skills throughout the program, culminating in a research project your senior year.

In our psychology degree program, students have many opportunities:

  • Getting a diverse liberal arts experience through over 30 hours of elective coursework
  • Internships to gain real-world experience
  • Paid Teaching Assistantships that provide experience in research and course instruction
  • Low student/faculty ratio for one-on-one mentoring in academic and professional development
  • Continue into the Masters of Counseling Psychology program at SWU

Is The Psychology Major Right For You?

If you've ever wondered why people are the way they are, enjoyed research, and/or wanted to help people solve their problems, this could be the major for you. Our program can prepare you for careers or graduate work in counseling, social work, family and child advocacy, or scientific research!
