SWU's Emergency Response Team Updates
1/22/2026 - 12:00 PM
The administration at Southern Wesleyan has been actively preparing for the likelihood of an unprecedented weather event this weekend. Many forecast models and weather experts are calling for snow, sleet, and ice that could cause extended power outages, create hazardous (even impossible) driving conditions, and impact the operations of many businesses including SWU. The forecasts indicate the worst of the weather will begin sometime Saturday morning and continue through the day and night on Sunday. Yesterday afternoon, the Governor declared a state of emergency.
Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we are cancelling classes starting at 1pm tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd and the campus will be closed starting Saturday through Monday. We are encouraging as many students as possible to go home Friday afternoon and remain there until the campus reopens. For those who are unable to leave campus, a limited food service will continue with brunch and dinner being served. Specific hours will be communicated soon. Please continue to check your email regularly for updates and join me in praying for safety amidst the storm.
