The Summer Bootcamp at SWU is a free, non-credit bearing, pre-semester primer geared at helping entering freshmen adapt to the demands of college and campus life.The program helps to enhance student success by reviewing essential skills in math and English. Students also become familiar with the SWU campus, its resources, processes, and key personnel prior to the arrival of the full student body.

Participation requires a two-week commitment that begins immediately prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Included is a week of online learning followed by a week of on-campus classes that allows participants move into their dorm room a week prior to the arrival of other campus residents. Participants take part in fun, engaging activities promote networking  with faculty, staff, and other students.

The 2023 Bootcamp runs Monday through Thursday, August 7 through August 17. Registration is required and available at www.swu.edu/swu-boot-camp/. with a deadline of July 31. Due to high interest in this Boot Camp, and the large size of the incoming freshman class, participation is limited to the first 20 students who complete the registration process. Applicants are notified of acceptance on a rolling basis through July 31 or until all seats are filled, whichever occurs first.

Courses

Mathematics Bootcamp: overviews the use of math and information to solve real world problems (Quantitative Reasoning) and the basic concepts and processes of functions, equations, inequalities, exponentials, logarithms, identities, and circular functions (Algebra and Trigonometry). This course assists learners in preparing for the freshman level math course required by their major.

English Bootcamp: assists with honing your skills for clear and specific writing. Learners will discover new strategies to help strengthen their writing practice and develop techniques for effective self-editing as a foundation for freshman English.
