Warrior Welcome Weekend Schedule

 

 

Friday, August 19

9 am - 2 pm — Welcome to SWU! — Admissions
When you arrive on campus report directly to the Admissions building where staff will greet you and direct you to your next destination. During this timeframe move in will take place based on your appointment time or if you have other business to take care of we will direct where to go.

9 am - 2 pm — Complete Online Orientation — Rickman Library
Computer labs will be open to allow you to complete the online Orientation modules if you have not yet done so.

1 pm - 2 pm — Commuter Check In — Admissions
You will arrive to finalize the registration process, if you have not yet done so. If you have other business to take care of we will direct where to go.

Noon - 2 pm — Lunch — Dining Commons
Lunch is included for students with ID card and is $7.65 for guests or family members.

2 pm - 5 pm — Afternoon Activities — Fountain
Local businesses and key SWU staff will be set up to give you more information about services that are offered.

2 pm - 3 pm — Student Athletes & Parents Meeting — Newton Hobson Auditorium
Learn about communication protocol and team community expectations. 

3 pm - 5 pm — Registration Meeting — Student Success Center/Library
For students who have not registered. You will work with faculty advisors to register for classes or adjust your class schedule.

4 pm - 5 pm — Parent Session — Newton Hobson Auditorium
Hear from campus leaders about the key issues and questions most parents have as well as an opportunity for Q&A. Learn more about the transition to college, what to expect from your student, the emotional transition, and how to engage when there is a problem. 

5 pm - 6:30 pm — Dinner — Dining Commons
Parents and students meet back up to go to dinner between 5:00-6:30. Dinner is included for students with ID cards and is $8.75 for guests or family members.

6 pm — Legacy Photo — SWU Sign at the Fountain

6:45 pm - 8 pm — Welcome Session & Passing the Mantle Ceremony  — Newton Hobson Auditorium
A special SWU tradition for families and new students that, will focus on the transition into a new educational and spiritual journey as an independent young adult. Your new SWU community will be there to welcome you and pray for you.

8 pm - 9 pm — Parent Bingo — Nicholson-Mitchell 203
After saying goodbye to your students come join the President and other parents for a time of connection and fun. We’ll be giving away some fun SWU prizes

8:30 pm - 10 pm — Meet and Sweets for Students — Blue Hill
Time to have some fun!  Meet new friends and enjoy snacks and games together.

Saturday, August 20

8 am - 9 am — Breakfast — Dining Commons
Breakfast with your orientation group.

9 am - 10 am — Morning Welcome Session — Newton Hobson Auditorium
A brief time of worship together as well as an opportunity to make connections with other students.

10 am - Noon — College Life Hacks — Various Locations
Choose from multiple sessions to learn more about the skills and resources to help you be successful during your time as a student at SWU. Pick two, the first from 10-10:50 and the second from 11-11:45. 

  • Option 1: Deepening Your Faith — Alive Chapel
    • Learn how to maintain/deepen your spiritual walk and relationship with God now that you are in college.
  • Option 2: Be Way Involved — Newton Hobson Auditorium
    • Find out how you can get involved on campus in everything from SGA to Intramural sports.
  • Option 3: Find a Job/Major — Joiner Hilson Classroom
    • Hear more about how you can discover your purpose and life calling.  This session will also give you more information about on campus job opportunities through the work-study program.
  • Option 4: Intentional Community Living — Nicholson Mitchell 203
    • This session will help you understand the importance of having difficult conversations in healthy ways and give you tools for healthy conflict resolution along with learning about creating healthy boundaries, what it looks like to manage your time well, and why it’s important to sometimes say “no”, even to good things.

1 pm - 1:15 pm — Group Photo — Team SWU Lawn

1:15 pm - 2:45 pm — My Professor Wants What? — Newton Hobson Auditorium
Get the inside scoop about what a typical professor wants in the classroom and how you can succeed. This is also a time to get to know some faculty from your major as well as other new students who will be in your major.

2:45 pm - 4:30 pm — Connection Time — Blue Hill
Come and meet your SGA President and Vice President and wrap up the afternoon with a free drink at Blue Hill.

5 pm - 7 pm — Women’s Soccer Game & SWUAU LUAU — Child’s Field & Bryant Lodge
Dinner will be served in the Dining Commons. Join the party and meet new friends as we celebrate your new adventure in college life at SWU.

8 pm - 10 pm — Warrior Welcome Party — Founders

Sunday, August 21

9:45 am - Noon — Worship at Local Churches
Grab some friends and find a local place of worship together. Time to slow down for some rest and relaxation after a busy NSO weekend!  

11 am - 1 pm — Sunday Brunch — Dining Commons

Beginning at 1pm — Sabbath Rest Activities (TBD)

5 pm - 6 pm — Dinner — Dinning Commons
